“March for Life”

Government officials shouldn’t be implementing policies based on their religion.

No pregnant person should have to fear if their doctor will save their life or let them die or be forced to have a child—just because some politician’s religion says abortion is wrong.

But that’s the country we live in right now.

Today, government officials including President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Speaker Johnson rallied a large crowd in Washington, DC for the “March for Life”, an annual march against reproductive rights. They made clear they aren’t just satisfied with the end of Roe v. Wade– they won’t stop until they “make abortion unthinkable” and “create a culture of life” in the United States.

They proudly celebrate politicians meddling in people’s personal health care decisions– like denying Medicaid coverage for abortions even when a doctor says it’s necessary– bragging about “saving 2 million lives”. But what about the lives they ruined?

This isn’t a “march for life.” It’s a march for theocracy.

Trump was the first president in history to address the crowd, saying:

“The reformed Department of Justice will finally investigate the radical left attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers and we will bring perpetrators to justice. We will get them to justice one way or another.”

“I will also end weaponization of law enforcement against Americans of faith. And I am releasing the Christians and pro-life activists who were persecuted by the Biden regime for praying and living out their faith.”

And he turned the idea of religious freedom on its head, insisting that the Christian majority needs protection, “Never again will religious persecution be allowed to happen in America.”

Well, Trump. We’re not scared of you.

At the American Humanist Association, we’re not sitting back while these extremists try to turn our country into Gilead from The Handmaid’s Tale. We’re fighting for a future where no one ever has to wonder if life-saving care will be blocked by a politician’s religion. Where the separation of church and state isn’t just a phrase in a history book—it’s a shield protecting real people from real harm.

Trump made it clear that he will be escalating this war in 2025. But so will we. The AHA is ready to take the fight to them. We’re ramping up our legal work, taking bold new steps, and standing on the frontlines against their extremist agenda.

We won’t back down. We won’t stay quiet. And we won’t stop until reason, justice, and humanity win. Our collective voice, and our work, is needed now more than ever to challenge these religious extremists.

Let’s be the thorn in their side.

Let’s fight for what’s right.

For our country. For humanity.

Are you with us?
