🎉 Now in our 26th year! 🎉
The First Coast Freethought Society is an organization of individuals who prefer science and reason over religious dogma and fanaticism. We have enjoyed the nonreligious population of Northeast Florida since 1998 as we seek ways to improve the quality of life within our communities.
Our advocacy prefers progressive ideas over regressive ideas with an emphasis on equality, equity, and critical thinking, through education and community outreach.
We provide a place to discuss philosophy, science, books, movies, current events, and a venue for local and national speakers to share their expertise. We offer support to those who question or have rejected religious beliefs.
Our public activities are free! Check out our YouTube Channel, monthly meetings, newsletter, book and move discussion groups, and our monthly Secular Sunday in the park. We hope you can join us!

UPCOMING EVENTS:
The book discussion group meets the first Sunday of the month at various locations.
Next movie discussion is January 7, 2025: Some Like It Hot, in our Zoom Room.
Please join the First Coast Freethought Society, Monday evening, January 20, 2025, when we are pleased to welcome back our distinguished guest speaker and author, Katherine Stewart. This is an online Zoom event from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm ET. Zoom opens at 6:15pm.
Stewart exposes the inner workings of the “engine of unreason” roiling American culture and politics, but aims at a bigger and more challenging target: how did we get to the point where there is an organized political movement within the United States that is working to destroy American Democracy? Stewart takes readers to conferences of conspiracy-mongers, backroom strategy gatherings, and services at extremist houses of worship. She introduces us to the activists, funders, intellectuals, and foot-soldiers who want to tear it all down. Along the way, she provides a compelling analysis of the authoritarian reaction in the United States.
Bio: Katherine Stewart has covered the intersection of faith and politics for over 15 years. Her book Money, Lies and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy, was praised by Congressman Jamie Raskin as “an indispensable citizens guide to the anti-democratic MAGA Right.” Her previous book, The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism, was awarded first place for Excellence in Nonfiction Books by the Religion News Association, among other prizes, and was selected as the Fall Read by Union Theological Seminary. Shortly after publication it was acquired by Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner and forms the basis of the documentary feature film God and Country.
