Chaplains in public schools

A Florida law went into effect on July 1st allowing schools to create chaplain programs. AU hosted a webinar about it. Here is the link to that recording:

Forward from AU:

This is a summary of the actions we’ve asked people to take:

  • Sign up to monitor local school board agendas for proposed chaplain policies.
    • Can’t be a monitor? Reach out to FLchaplains@au.org if you see or hear of any chaplain policies being proposed.
  • Ask chaplains in your network (or contacts with connections to chaplains) to sign onto this opposition letter and encourage all religious leaders in your network to speak out against implementing a public school chaplains program.
  • Raise awareness: Speak to your friends, family, and people in your community about the public school chaplains law.
  • Check out our volunteer guide including talking points

We need more monitors, so if you haven’t signed up yet and are able to commit to monitoring at least one district twice per week, please sign up ASAP.

We’ll assign you one of the districts that we still don’t have a monitor for and send you the link to the spreadsheet with resources for monitoring the district as well as the link to the reporting form.

Thank you!
